History

The activities of Blue Bay's kennel have been quite small-scale. Our goal in breeding is not to fill the world with Griffons. The first litter was born in 2002, and the next litter is expected in the spring of 2023.

Our breeding work began with a Petit Brabançon male, Zazou Zolenne Zornione, bred by Sirpa Hannonen, and a Griffon Bruxellois female, Beannachtaí Exclusive Erin, bred by Julie Glaaser-Maher, which we brought from the Netherlands.

We gained new momentum in our breeding work when we brought three dogs from the Beauview kennel in Great Britain. Howard Ogden's dogs represent the breed type that pleases our eye.

There are no perfect dogs, but one can get close, and the breed standard should always be the goal. In our breeding, we strive to think of the whole picture, not just certain details. To put it somewhat bluntly: What kind of breeding individual is a dog with zero knees and a nice temperament, but otherwise unrecognizable as a Griffon? Focusing solely on a couple of (albeit very important) aspects can, at worst, lead to losing sight of the whole picture and the main thread of breeding.

A dog used for breeding must at least remotely resemble a Griffon, so a quality rating of "good" from a show is not sufficient reason for us to use an individual for breeding; such an individual must have something else valuable to offer the breed.
